Smart Futures
The School Counseling Department has partnered with a new career platform; Smart Futures for career education. In the past years, we have used the platform Xello. Students can access Smart Futures through the Smart Futures Portal.
If using a district issued Chromebook, students can access the Smart Futures app and login directly using their Southmoreland account.
Smart Futures is a new platform for all students K-12. We will be doing in depth training with all students once school starts and have our feet on the ground. More information to come!
Smart Futures will allow students to work on various aspects of their career and post-secondary plan. Smart Futures gives students the opportunity to take various career surveys/assessments to help understand the various career options that match their interests, skills and personality. It will also allow students to look at post-secondary schooling options. Students will have the opportunity to use this program throughout their ENTIRE time at Southmoreland and beyond.
As of February 2026, we have started exploring with Smart Futures. Students all have a login available to them. They will continue to explore and complete all required activities throughout the remainder of the school year.
Resume Assistance
What is a resume and why do I need one?
A resumé is your first introduction to a future employer, internship supervisor or others and summarizes your experience, skills, education, and goals. It is often the very first impression you will make on a potential employer. Everyone old enough to work needs a resumé but even students who do not work will find a resumé very helpful for tracking their academic and extra-curricular activities. In addition to your GPA, school course work and other academic items, volunteer work, community involvement, leadership experience, and athletic achievement can be featured in a resumé. A well formatted resumé with dates and descriptions for your academic and extracurricular work is more likely to get you noticed by a potential employer, a college recruiter, or even a scholarship reviewer. You will also find it handy to have all this information at your own fingertips when you find yourself filling out application after application, form after form. The following sites provide help with resumé preparation. Use them to find a sample or a template that you can use to adapt for your own.
